Ola Nordmann

I'm a student at NTNU in Trondheim, where I lead a team working on computer vision and AI for Arctic applications. Previously, I worked at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) on projects involving autonomous systems, marine robotics, and sustainable AI. I completed my PhD at University of Oslo, focusing on machine learning for environmental monitoring in Nordic conditions. I've received the Norwegian Research Council's Outstanding Young Researcher Award.

Research

I'm interested in computer vision, machine learning, and sustainable AI. My research focuses on developing robust AI systems that work in challenging Nordic environments, including underwater robotics, Arctic monitoring, and energy-efficient deep learning. Some papers are highlighted.

ArcticVision: Deep Learning for Sea Ice Monitoring in Svalbard
Ola Nordmann, Astrid Hansen, Erik Solberg, Kari Fjellheim
International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), 2024
project page / paper / code

A novel computer vision system for monitoring sea ice conditions in the Arctic using satellite imagery and drone surveillance. Our method achieves 94% accuracy in ice thickness estimation and has been deployed by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

FjordNet: Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Navigation in Norwegian Fjords
Ola Nordmann, Magnus Olsen, Ingrid Berge, Tor Kristiansen
Robotics and Autonomous Systems, 2024
project page / paper

An AI-powered navigation system for autonomous underwater vehicles operating in the complex underwater terrain of Norwegian fjords. Integrates sonar, visual, and environmental sensors for robust underwater SLAM.
